DH Javor race in Trbovlje<\/strong>, this year\u2019s 3rd round of Unior Downhill Cup<\/strong>, was also the Slovenian National Championships<\/strong>, and in wet race Jure \u017dabjek<\/strong> (Unior\/Devinci Factory Racing) won his fourth elite title. He was 7.14 faster than second placed\u00a0Luka Berginc<\/strong> (KK \u010crn trn) and 10.17 faster than third placed Miha Ivan\u010di\u010d<\/strong> (\u0160KTD Av\u010de). Jan Cimperman<\/strong> (MTB Trbovlje\/HCI) followed in 4th and Rudi Pintar<\/strong> (Sinter Brakes Team) in 5th place.<\/p>\n

\u017dak Gomil\u0161\u010dek<\/strong> (Sinter Brakes Team) defended his junior men title. Women\u2019s title was not presented this time since all three riders dropped out before today\u2019s seeding run, the defending champ Monika Hrastnik<\/strong> (DGK Pohorje\/Dorval AM) as last with an ankle injury.<\/p>\n

It was raining for most of time during the training and racing on the classic track at Sv. Planina on the slopes of Mt. Javor. The organizers from MTB Trbovlje who for the last years have been concentrating on the races on the island of Lo\u0161inj in Croatia, including World Cups, brought the 2500m track with some 300m of vertical drop back to life for the 20th anniversary of their first race. The last national series and UCI C1 was held here in 2012. With a fast grassy part, the notorious rocky Manson section and a number of fast open turns and off-cambers this was a welcome change for the riders. It was just a bit slower in the wet.<\/p>\n

During Sunday\u2019s seeding run the rain was strong and there was a lot of water on track so the grip was good. But in the last part of afternoon\u2019s final run the rain weakened and the mud was starting to thicken. Some parts became more demanding while the others were fast for the lack of water. Most of the fastest elite men still improved their times.<\/p>\n

\u017dabjek was already fastest in the seeding run, five seconds up on the wet conditions specialist Ivan\u010di\u010d in second, Berginc was third. \u017dabjek was the favourite for the win-after an injury troubled last season he came back to speed just weeks ago with 10th place at Leogang World Cup. This time he started as last and finally improved his seeding run time by six seconds. Berginc moved up to second and Ivan\u010di\u010d settled for third-just like last year when Miran Vauh took the highest step.<\/p>\n

Vauh retired after his fourth elite title so now we have three men on the top of National Champions all-time list from 1992 with four titles each: Vauh (\u201909, \u201911, \u201914, \u201918), Janez Gra\u0161i\u010d (\u201996, \u201998-\u201900) and now \u017dabjek (\u201915-\u201917, \u201919).<\/p>\n

In junior men\u2019s category it was a duel between Sinter Brakes Team teammates Gomil\u0161\u010dek and Marko Niemiz<\/strong>, last year\u2019s U17 champ. In the seeding run \u017dak was faster by .6. In the final he improved his time by about five seconds while Marko crashed hard and finished as last. Silver medal went to Ga\u0161per Jure\u010di\u010d<\/strong> (Rajd Ljubljana) and bronze to \u010crt Belingar<\/strong> (\u0160KTD Av\u010de).<\/p>\n

Nace Kokelj<\/strong> (Wolf Racing Team) became the new U17 champion while his team boss Bo\u0161tjan Volf<\/strong> took the masters title with a time that would have brought him a fifth in the elite category. Bla\u017e Vohar<\/strong> (\u0160KD Pank kura) was the fastest in amateur category while Croatian Frane Medi\u0107<\/strong> (BK Crikvenica) won the U15 category once again after Lo\u0161inj.<\/p>\n

DH Javor was also a Croatia Cup race but not with many Croatian riders at the start. Ivan Ba\u0161i\u0107<\/strong> (BK TNT Pazin) was the fastest in elite men in 12th place.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI thought I\u2019d be much faster than in the seeding run but the conditions had changed quite a lot,\u201d said \u017dabjek. \u201cIt stopped raining and the mud began to thicken. The track was a bit slower. But I had a clean run so I\u2019m happy. I hardly made any mistakes except on the Manson. You can\u2019t have a perfect run in conditions like these. I don\u2019t have much experience in the wet so I\u2019d good to have a wet race, especially on a track like this with all the elements.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unior Downhill Cup round four follows on August 24\/25<\/strong>, the Downhill Sorca at Sori\u0161ka planina<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
