This weekend, on Sunday, July 12, the third round of the 20chocolate Downhill Cup, the Slovenian national series, will take place on the picturesque Sori\u0161ka Planina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

After races in Poseka and at the Pohorje Maribor Bike Park, the riders are now in full swing for the season, in the middle of the summer tripleheader\u2014Pohorje, Sori\u0161ka Planina, and Kranjska Gora\u2014where races follow one another at 14-day intervals. The trilogy concludes with a \u201cdouble prize\u201d in Kranjska Gora, where, in addition to Cup points, the fastest riders will also compete for national championship medals and titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will be the eleventh national downhill race at Sori\u0161ka Planina since 2014; it will be the third time the event has been organized by the Omikron Plus Sports Association from \u017delezniki, in collaboration with the Sori\u0161ka Planina Tourist Center and the Cycling Federation of Slovenia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Track<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The downhill course starting from just under the top of Lajnar Peak (1,549 m above sea level) is a permanent feature of the Sori\u0161ka Planina Bike Park and named last year: the \u017dwau Trai (the Animal)l. The name comes from the old motto of the original organizers, MTB \u017delezniki: \u201cBe an animal!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail will be very similar to last year\u2019s, 1,650 m long with a 280-meter elevation drop. It features plenty of technical sections with roots and rocks, a few fast sections, and even some sprints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Maks Struna was the fastest with a time of 2 minutes and 48 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schedule<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The standard schedule includes a course familiarization on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. On Sunday, official practice will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the seeding run starts at 1:30 p.m., and the final begins at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
