After a warm-up at the DH Golovec Trails Test Day in March, it’s finally time for some real racing for the Slovenian 20chocolate Downhill Cup points. On 4 May, the DH Pohorje race in Pohorje Bike Park in Maribor will also open the Austrian Gravity Cup Series.
Entries from both countries and probably from other countries in the region will be accepted until the evening of 1 May. The competition should be quite varied. Usually in Maribor, the magnet of the famous World Cup track takes care of that. This time it will be particularly interesting thanks to the newly built upper part.

New Section Up Close
From the start at the Luka hut, the new section, created by the builders from Alliance ASE, runs through the forest to the right of the old one, all the way to the exit from the forest onto the Špelcin log ski slope, where last year’s start was located. The section is some 45 seconds long, with roots and compressions a bit like the classic first part, but some parts are much steeper and also off-camber, which could be awkward in wet conditions, at least while the track is not ridden in yet.
The track is still closed until Friday, but Austrian ace David Trummer was recently allowed to test. The first three frames of his run will give you some impression…
The Programme, Including Side Events
The track will be open for riding on Friday from 10.30 to 16.00.
On Saturday, the qualifying starts at 13:30 and the finals at 16:00.
The organisers from the Pohorje Mountain Bike Association are also preparing some side events. On Friday at 14:00, a guided enduro tour starts. The tour will be adapted to the conditions, register at info@spank.si. It’s a part of Slovenian Cycling Federation programme and the rides are free of charge for participants. At 20:00, the new documentary film Green Skiing by Haidy Kancler will be previewed at the Spank Maribor bar at the gondola base station. It is about how skiing is giving way to sports that do not require snow.
On Saturday, youngsters and kids can take part in a children’s workshop on the pump track, and in the evening there’s a party, as Sunday remains still “in reserve” before the start of the new week.
